HOW TO USE THE VACATION POINT CALCULATOR
This is our Vacation Point Calculator. The purpose of this tool is to assist buyers as they determine the right size membership for their family.
There are Point Charts for each of the 15 Resorts, and the points per night will vary, depending on several factors. A two bedroom villa will naturally require more points per night than a deluxe studio. Do you typically travel during peak or off season? The number of points for each of the Disney Vacation Club Resorts will appear as you input the different dates and room sizes.
As always, please let us know if you have any questions. We look forward to assisting you in any way we can!
UNDERSTANDING THE DVC POINTS SYSTEM: A SMARTER APPROACH TO VACATION OWNERSHIP
Why Points Instead of Weeks?
Traditional timeshare ownership operates on a fixed-week model, where owners purchase the right to use a specific unit during a designated week each year. While this approach offers predictability, it comes with significant limitations. What happens when your schedule changes? What if you want to visit during a different season or stay at a different resort? With traditional timeshares, these simple requests often become complicated obstacles.
Disney Vacation Club recognized these limitations and developed a revolutionary points-based system that fundamentally transformed how vacation ownership works. Instead of purchasing a specific week at a single resort, DVC members own a certain number of vacation points that function as a flexible vacation currency. These points can be used across all DVC resorts, during any time of year, and for various room sizes, giving members unprecedented control over their vacation planning.
How the Points System Balances Demand
One of the most ingenious aspects of the DVC points system is how it naturally balances resort demand throughout the year. Disney accomplishes this through carefully calibrated point charts that assign different point values based on when you travel and what accommodations you choose.
During peak travel periods such as Christmas week, spring break, and summer months, the point requirements increase significantly. A studio that might cost 12 points per night during the slower Adventure Season could require 20 or more points during the busier Dream Season. Conversely, traveling during off-peak times like early September or late January rewards members with lower point costs, stretching their vacation points further.
This dynamic pricing structure serves a critical purpose: it distributes demand more evenly across the calendar year. Without this system, every member would naturally gravitate toward the same popular weeks, creating intense competition for limited availability. By making peak times more "expensive" in terms of points and slower periods more affordable, Disney incentivizes members to consider alternative travel dates they might not have otherwise explored. Many DVC members discover that these shoulder seasons offer shorter lines, cooler weather, and a more relaxed park atmosphere, making them preferable to the crowded peak periods.
Annual Adjustments and Inflation Protection
Disney reserves the right to adjust point charts annually, allowing the system to evolve with changing travel patterns and demand. If a particular resort or season becomes unexpectedly popular, Disney can modify the point requirements to rebalance demand. Similarly, if certain periods prove less attractive to members, point values can be adjusted to make those times more appealing.
Importantly, while the point charts may shift over time, your ownership remains protected from traditional inflation. Unlike hotel prices that increase year after year, your DVC points maintain their value relative to the system. If you own 200 points today, you still own 200 points next year, regardless of what happens to general vacation costs. The only annual expense members face is their maintenance fees, which cover resort upkeep, housekeeping, and amenities.
This structure creates a powerful hedge against rising travel costs. As hotel and vacation rental prices continue climbing, DVC members can continue enjoying their Disney resort stays using the same number of points they have always used. Many long-time members report that their effective nightly cost has remained remarkably stable compared to the dramatic price increases seen in traditional Disney resort bookings.
