THE TRUTH ABOUT DVC RESALE RESTRICTIONS
Restrictions began January 2019 with Riviera Resort
Original 14 resorts: Full booking access at all DVC properties
All resale members keep Interval International access
Home resort: Book 11 months ahead | Other resorts: 7 months
Disney Vacation Club implemented resale restrictions beginning January 19, 2019, with the introduction of Riviera Resort. Prior to this date, all DVC contracts purchased on the resale market carried the same benefits as those purchased directly from Disney. Under the current restrictions, contracts purchased at Riviera, Disneyland Hotel Villas, and Fort Wilderness Cabins cannot be used at any other DVC resort when bought through resale.
The Concierge Collection allows direct purchasers to book stays at non-DVC Disney hotels and partner resorts. However, reservations require a non-refundable $95 transaction fee, are subject to blackout dates, and cannot be made within the last four months of the member's use year. Some participating hotels require minimum stays of seven nights. Point requirements for these bookings often exceed what the equivalent cash rate would cost.
The Disney Collection provides access to standard hotel rooms (not DVC villas) at Disney properties worldwide, plus staterooms on Disney Cruise Line. These bookings also carry the $95 transaction fee and the four-month use year restriction. The Adventures by Disney program allows members to use points toward guided group tours. Both direct and resale members retain full access to Interval International, which offers exchanges at over 3,200 resorts in 80 countries.
Resale buyers who purchase contracts at the original 14 resorts can book at any of those 14 properties through the standard DVC booking system. Reservations at home resorts can be made 11 months in advance, while bookings at other DVC resorts open at the 7-month window. This core benefit remains unchanged for resale purchases at the original properties.
Membership Extras that require direct purchase of 150 or more points include:
- Dining discounts of 10-20% at select Disney restaurants

All DVC resale transactions are subject to Disney's Right of First Refusal (ROFR). Disney reviews each resale contract and may choose to purchase it at the agreed price within 30 days. If Disney exercises ROFR, the sale does not proceed to the original buyer. This process applies to all DVC resale contracts regardless of resort.
